Strengthening of Our Intellectual Property and Corporate Practices – New Partner Appointments and Associate Hire

We are pleased to announce that we have further strengthened our intellectual property and corporate practices with the addition and promotion of new attorneys, as detailed below.

On June 1, Hiromi Furushima joined the firm as a partner.
Ms. Furushima began her legal career at law firms handling corporate and intellectual property matters, and later moved into in-house role at multinational pharmaceutical companies. There, she oversaw the legal, IP, and compliance departments, and played an integral role in corporate management. She brings extensive experience in the life sciences sector, including developing and executing IP strategies, managing litigation, handling criminal matters related to pharmaceutical regulatory violations, establishing governance frameworks, and negotiating business development agreements.

Takahiro Yanagimoto, who has played a key role in our IP practice, was promoted to partner.
A registered patent attorney and licensed pharmacist, Mr. Yanagimoto has deep expertise in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology fields. He has been involved in a wide range of IP disputes and has significant experience in IP-related agreements and due diligence. He also handles patent prosecution at our affiliate, Isshiki Patent Trademark Firm.

In March, Shigehiro Kawase joined the firm as an associate.
Leveraging his background as a systems engineer, Mr. Kawase has worked on a broad range of matters, including software and IT-related disputes, as well as trademark, design, copyright, commercial, and general civil matters.

Isshiki & Partners is a Tokyo-based law firm with a strong focus on cross-border matters. Our attorneys, many of whom have experience at top global law firms, provide legal services across a wide range of areas including intellectual property, litigation, and corporate law. In IP matters, we work closely with our affiliate, Isshiki Patent & Trademark Firm, to provide comprehensive support in all stages of IP matters—from prosecution and opinions to licensing and litigation.

In April, we also launched the Insight Series, a set of articles exploring key legal topics in cross-border business. Three articles have been published to date and can be viewed at the link below:
